War And All That Stuff

It’s been a while since I posted a blog. I can give you a whole list of excuses, but one word will serve: war. Suffice it to say that Mom is well and oblivious to the traumatic and emotional toll of October 7. Her nursing home has been exceptional in caring for its residents, providing stimulating activities, and generally continuing to function under trying circumstances. There are heroes everywhere, and I see them in the multi-cultured and many-languaged staff at Mom’s home. We owe them a big thanks.

It’s not every day that someone asks me to recall what happened that day—and subsequent days. And I am thankful to Laurel McHargue, a true friend and happy podcast host of “Alligator Preserves,” who invited me to talk.

I met Laurel four years ago when I was publicizing my book, The Lost Kitchen: Reflections and Recipes from an Alzheimer’s Caregiver. Laurel, who is also a writer, asked me on her show to talk about Alzheimer’s. Today, as she says, we are both mothers of soldiers, and our subject was Israel.
